Spread the love

The day was chilly, I had to wear a light coat. The park was pretty busy, lots of people having picnics or walking their dog. I even saw a woman sitting on a bench reading a pretty big book, it looked like it was at least 400 pages. I always cut through the park on my way to my Mother’s house, it’s quicker than going through downtown. She didn’t invite me over and I didn’t really want to talk to her either, but we should talk about what she said to me. Because that was not okay. I knew that my Mother had anger issues, but I tried to push it deep down inside and pretended like I had the perfect Mother that any child would dream of. But reality is harsh, I have learned that. And I am sick of pretending. I left the park and turned down a long bendy street with multiple small house on either side of the road. Her house is the big grey one. I slowly walked up the concrete steps and took a deep breath as I went to unlock he door. I had my own key, because my Mother hates it when people knock on her door, she told me she would prefer if i just walked in. Especially if she was napping. I held the little silver key in my hand, should I really talk to her about what had happened? Or should I just turn around now and walk home? I froze as I heard my Mothers voice yell from behind the door, but I was even more startled when I heard a mans voice yell back at her. Who was she arguing with? I put my ear up against the door so I could get a better idea of who the man was.

“She wasn’t supposed to die!” My Mother yelled.

“It wasn’t my fault, I never intended for that to happen Zara!” Yelled the man.

“This is all your fault.” My Mother spoke.

“How is this my fault? You are the one who hired someone to kidnap your own daughter!”

As I heard him yell once more my heart stopped. I quickly unlocked the front door and stepped inside. Please let me be wrong, please let me be wrong! But I wasn’t wrong. I was right. I saw Noah standing directly beside my Mother, sweat glistened on his forehead.

“Chloe? What on earth are you doing here?” My Mother asked as I stood in the door way, shocked.

“I came to talk to you… What is Noah doing here?” I looked at her with fear in my eyes.

“You both said you had never met each other before.” I turned to Noah.

“What are you doing in her house?” Zara put her hand on my shoulder.

“Chloe, dear.” I shrugged her hand off.

“Don’t yo dare touch me! I heard you two yelling, the whole neighbourhood could hear you!”
“Chloe sit down.”

“No.”

“Chloe sit down now.”

“NO! You tell me what you both did with my Sister right now!: I screamed, tears dampening my face. Zara sighed.

“I can’t tell you.”

“Tell me now. Or i am going straight to the police,” I said through gritted teeth.

“She wasn’t supposed to die.” She glared at Noah.

“What do yo mean, Grace wasn’t supposed to die?” I asked.

“No, Noah was supposed to keep an eye on her.”

“Well where the hell did she go five years ago? What did you do with my sister?” I yelled louder than I have ever yelled before, I was just praying the neighbours didn’t not hear us.

“Chloe sit down.”

“NO. Tell me what you did with Grace!”

“Noah took her. He staged the kidnapping, Grace was doing just fine, and it was supposed to stay that way.” Zara said. I walked over to Noah.

“You kidnapped my sister?” I could tell he was holding his breath.

“Your mother hired me to.” His words hit me, hard.

“W-what do you mean- Mom?” I walked over to her.

“What the hell did you do with my Sister?”

“Chloe, yo never listened to me, you where being rebellious. You where being a reckless teenager. I-”

“So what? You had to punish me? Mom I was being a normal teenager! How do you not get that! But more importantly… Why do that to Grace?”

“I knew taking her away would cause you pain, and I was hoping that pain would set you straight. And look, it did.” Zara said.

“And you, why would you ever go on a date with the Sister of the girl you kidnapped?” I asked Noah, he was much taller then me.

“To keep an eye on you, we didn’t want you to ever find out about Grace.”

“Because you knew I would turn against Zara didn’t you?”

“Chloe I’m your Mother!” Zara held my arm.

“Not anymore. I’m calling the police and turning you both in.”

“Chloe… You know I can’t let you do that.”

“Yeah? And how are you going to stop me?” I held my phone in my hand, the terror of being turned in filled their eyes, I could see it clear as day. Zara looked at Noah and nodded, Noah then started to approach me.

“I love you Chloe, I really do. But I love my freedom more. Go be with your Sister.” Noah grabbed my arms and held them behind my back.

“What, what are you doing? Get off of me!”

“I’m so sorry for this, at least it will be less painful than it was for your sister. I love you Chloe, I will see you again some time in the future darling.” She caressed my cheek. I spit at her.

“Rot in hell. The police will find out sooner or later what you did to Grace and I.”

“Not if we cover our tracks well enough.” She smirked.

“By my love.” I heard a man knocking at the door stating he was a police officer as everything went black.

Here I come Grace, soon I can hold you in my arms once again.
